What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic Medicine focuses on creating optimal health using individualized treatments in a (w)holistic and preventative manner.

Just like our conventional medical doctors, Naturopathic Doctors complete four years of medical school, where the first two years consist of basic sciences and final two years is dedicated to studying and practicing a combination of conventional and natural therapies in clinical settings.

Naturopathic Medicine aims to discover the root cause of your symptoms by understanding the body's own biochemical and physiological functions. Each human body is different and has different metabolic functions going on inside. This is why Naturopathic Medicine uses personalized treatments and vast therapies to help their clients heal.

These therapies include

  • herbal medicine
  • nutrition
  • therapeutic-grade supplementation
  • functional medicine
  • water-based therapies
  • lifestyle counseling
  • homeopathy
  • mind-body awareness

Six Tenets of Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic Doctors adhere to six principles which make up the philosophy and methodology of Naturopathic Medicine. These include:

  1. First Do No Harm - usage of safe and effective therapies
  2. The Healing Power of Nature - The human body has its own healing abilities. The role of the physicians is to facilitate this natural healing process with natural therapies.
  3. Treat the Cause - It is a physicians role to determine the underlying causative factors in order to treat the disease and not mask the symptoms
  4. Treat the Whole Person- All our organs are interconnected. If one organ is functioning improperly, there is a chance others are in dysfunction as well. It is important to treat the whole person in order to be in optimal health.
  5. Physician as Teacher - A physicians role is to educate, motivate and empower patients to take responsibility in their own health.
  6. Prevention is the best "cure" - Physicians assist in preventative care by assessing risk factors surrounding the patients.
